So the news has been out for many hours now. HTC Released an RUU ( Rom Update Utility ) for the HTC Desire to upgrade to Android 2.3. With the release HTC quite nicely released some shocking news that some things had been removed from the update due to memory constraints. Another awesome bit of news, in their disclaimer;
… certain functions may no longer be usable after re-flashing the ROM if you are using an excluded variant (listed below), including but not limited to MMS and SMS and HTC also disclaims liability for any unusable functions.HTC disclaims liability for the loss and/or leakage of any personal data resulting from the re-flashing of the ROM.
So not only have they taken out some applications, they are saying that in certain regions, you may not be able to use SMS or MMS; luckily these are limited to Germany (Deutsch Telekom), North America, South America, South Korea, and Japan. Which should mean that all networks in the UK should experience no problems at all!
I will be awaiting more news on the matter before proceeding with the update on my phone. First of all, there are issues with some latest applications that I use. I will not update these unless their issues are fixed, but by upgrading, I will effectively be installing these defective products when the time comes around to installing them, which I certainly do not want!
If you are on O2 Pay and Go and have installed the Android 2.3 upgrade, what’s your thoughts on it? Did you have problems?
