Windows Thumbnail Hack

For a while now I have been annoyed by the size of Windows XP’s thumbnail preview size. It was just too small. It would make searching for specific photos much quicker if it was larger. After some searching on Google, I found a few websites that listed an easy way to modify the size and quality of those thumbnails and I would like to share this information with you as it may be helpful!

Before proceeding, you agree that you accept all liability of anything you do or have read results in your computer misbehaving or not functioning as it should. It should also be noted that you need to know how to navigate and edit the registry.

Using Regedit you need to navigate to;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

Once there right click and create a new DWORD entry. Set the properties as they are shown below.

  • ThumbnailSize Hex 100
  • ThumbnailQuality Hex 100

If you have done everything correctly, then your regedit window will look like mine!

Your changes should be immediate. All you need to do is close any open windows that have thumbnails and re-open them!

This is how all of my thumbnails look after I modified my registry

Steal my money, please!

I got an email from Apple this morning, telling me that I have been charged £2.99 for an in-app purchase made on the Ant Smasher Free Game on my iPod. I felt that this is very odd as I would not have purchased the ad remover!

Recently I updated the apps on my iPod, and when you do this, your store account stays active for around 15 minutes after inputting your password. This is because Apple don’t want to you to put in your password every time you download an app.

When launching Ant Smasher Free Game on my iPod, for some reason it is asking me to input my store password; this generally happens when you are trying to purchase something. In this particular case, I am not!

As you can see from the video above, it is asking for my password, when I press cancel, it takes me to a video and then asks me if I am sure about making my in app purchase. Something is definitely wrong here. I have contacted Apple and they have agreed to give me my £2.99 back, but it doesn’t look like they will be taking the matter any further with the app developer, which means they will be getting loads of money from everyone illegitimately!

Have you had any problems like this with your iPhone / iPod / iPad? If so, what happened, and how did you resolve it?

A car crashed!

In case you missed it, and I didn’t shout about it enough on Facebook and Twitter last night, I will post the photos I took from last nights car crash.

A photo just after the police turned up to assess the situation.

This is how the car was found after it had been hit.

From what I gather from the on-lookers last night, the car was parked on the grass on the central reservation and a speeding car had hit it from behind and spun it around. The car ended up in the middle of the road with, what looks like, a cracked radiator and a busted rear end.

It seems as if the person who drove into the Honda Civic, was either coming out of Trussell Crescent too fast and couldn’t get around the corner properly and crashed into it, or someone was ( and this is just a theory ), on their way back from the March Hare, was drunk, couldn’t control the car properly and crashed into it!

If anyone has any other news, give me a shout and I shall update this post with more information!

Stagecoach – Replies and Responses

Today I received my response from Stagecoach regarding the complaint that I made on the 13th. The response I received was not in any way adequate. In the letter, Richard Tyldsley comes across as though he was “sorry to hear that [I] have again experienced distress”, this is all well and good but does not solve my problem, and in no way should he be the one apologising to me or my daughter.

He goes on to say, “the number of correspondence received about this issue, compared to the tremendous number of passenger journeys made does not reflect a wide spread issue”. This statement may very well be true, but does it also account for the amount of passengers who have been caught off guard when the bus pulled away and not complained? I highly doubt it!

Stagecoach – Again!

[Disclaimer]

Throughout the past 8 years of living in Winchester, I have used Stagecoach as my primary means of travel around the city. Using their services to get to work, to go shopping, to take my kids to school and pick them up and even go out on day trips.

As a frequent user of Stagecoach’s services, I have noticed a growing trend of disregard for the safety of their passengers over the past couple of years. On more than one occasion the driver has injured my children; myself or other passengers due to carelessness.

If you are a reader of my blog and have followed my writing for some time, you would know that this is not the first time Stagecoach have hurt either my family or myself. Approximately a year ago, I made a formal complaint against one of the drivers because he pulled away in haste and my daughter, Chloé, who was 2 years old at the time, fell over and hurt herself. If I had not of reacted as quick as I did, I would have fell over and landed on her, which would have caused significant injuries.
