FAQ

What does this plugin do exactly?

  • It adds meta data to your wordpress blog so it can better interact with facebook and other services that use the open graph protocol.

Did you make this plugin all by yourself?

  • The original code for this plugin was written by Joe Crawford, but I have extensively modified it and hopfully improved upon what he originally wrote!

Only the default image is being used, whats wrong?

  • You need to add an image as a featured image for this plugin to work correctly.

How do I replace the default image?

  • Go to *wordpress directory*/wp-content/plugins/wp-ogp and replace default.jpg with another image with the same name! This only works for the default image, you need to add a featured image on the post page for it to work with articles.

It doesn’t seem to be working correctly, whats wrong?

  • You may not have entered your Facebook ID and your Facebook Application ID, if you have, double check it, and make sure it’s correct!

Why have you updated so many times since its been submitted?

  • I’m new to working with WordPress, so there will be updates to correct errors to make sure it works perfectly for everyone who downloads this!

How do I register a new application with Facebook?

  • Go to http://www.facebook.com/developers and allow the developer application access to your account. As of writing this, there is an issue with this and you will be presented with an 404 error after it redirects you back to facebook.

  • Fill in the form, click create application which will then take you to the following page.

  • On the left hand side click on Web site and your application id should be there!

So, now you have heard about the plugin, you want it right? Well, you can download it from the official WordPress Plugin repository.

If you have any problems with this plugin, please post your questions here, and I will try and help you the best I can!

Also, I must say thanks to 36flavours.com for providing me with a great article with great instructions on how the hell to use TortoiseSVN properly with WordPress and Joe Crawford for providing the original plugin I have turned into my own!

  6. Hi !

How coooool would it be to have audio enclosures to embed in Facebook ! ;)

I’ll see if I can manage to extract enclosure data from WP and patch your plugin to use it ! If you agree, of course ! Thanks for this handful plugin ! :)

    Cheers from Belgium !

    • your welcome. I would like to see any modifications you make as it would be good to add these to the official release :)

  7. Hi David,

Great plugin -- I can see that you no longer support it. Do you know if anyone has taken it on, or made a fork from it?

    • Hey Gary,

As far as I know, this has not been taken on by anyone else. If you are using this for facebook, then you don’t really need it, you can use the Jetpack plugin from Automattic which has the like button integrated into that. Plus there are other plugins that can do a much better job and have a lot more functionality than this does.

      Sorry.
